About Us
Ginny Jurken is the owner and sole practitioner of WHYoga-Physical Therapy. She is a Registered Physical Therapist (RPT) specializing in Myofascial Release (MFR) as taught by John Barnes, PT. She is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance and certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT) as a yoga therapist. Her business, WHYoga-PT evolved from healing her own personal injuries and her desire to optimize healing in others.
Ginny is uniquely qualified to offer an integrated and ‘whole body’ approach to facilitate her clients own healing process. Whether through physical therapy (Myofascial Release), Yoga Therapy or a combination of both, her knowledge and background experiences aim to improve her clients’ wellness and health.
Ginny received her Physical Therapy education through Marquette University, graduating with honors in 1975. In that same year she was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. Since her graduation she has practiced physical therapy in both rehab and pediatric settings. She has additional training in Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) with children. Ginny has advanced training in the manual therapy technique of Myofascial Release (MFR), beginning in 2008 to present. She uses MFR in her PT treatments as well as offering suggestions for home self-treatment.
Ginny is an adjunct faculty member of Marquette University, teaching in the Gross Anatomy lab (1998 to present). She instructs students in the Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Dental Programs. She also offers Clinical Correlatives to an undergrad MU Gross Anatomy lab class.
Ginny is certified with the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Ginny has worked alongside Timothy McCall MD, an internationally renown author and yoga therapist, in teaching the workshop “Seeing and Understanding Bodies” in Milwaukee and at both Kripalu (MA) and the Omega Institute (NY). She has studied with Dr. McCall in his “Yoga As Medicine” workshops and Level 2 “Yoga Therapy and the Nervous System”. In addition, as his Physical Therapist, Ginny’s Myofascial Release treatments are highlighted in Dr. McCall’s newly released book, “Saving My Neck: A Doctor’s East/West Journey through Cancer”
Ginny received her yoga teacher training certification from the Living Yoga Program in Austin, Texas. Ginny is registered with the Yoga Alliance. She has been a practitioner of Hatha yoga since she was 40 years old and has taught both private and group Hatha yoga classes since 2005. At Marquette University Ginny developed and taught the curriculum for the course “The Science of Yoga” offered to Exercise Science students. She also served as a mentor of independent study for the 2 credit course she developed, “East Meets West through Yoga”.
Ginny co-developed Special Kids Yoga (SKYoga) and has served the special needs population offering adaptive yoga classes since 2003 to 2010. She has provided Therapy Inservices on Therapeutic Yoga to Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists.
Ginny is very passionate about the healing powers of MFR and Yoga Therapy and loves empowering her patients to heal.
